MT-250 HB – Wire electrode for wear-resistant hardfacing
MT-250 HB is a low-alloy manganese-chromium wire electrode for MIG/MAG welding of machinable, wear-resistant overlays. The welding filler metal is particularly suitable for repair, maintenance, and preventative wear protection on components made of structural steel or cast steel. Typical applications include sliding surfaces, impellers, bearing surfaces, wheel rims, rails, rollers, guides, conveyor rollers, and couplings.
The pure weld metal achieves a Brinell hardness of approx. 225–275 HB in its as-welded condition and thus remains easily machinable. The typical analysis of the weld metal is approx. 0.30% C, 0.45% Si, 1.10% Mn, and 1.00% Cr. The standard designation is EN ISO 14700: S Fe 1.
MT-250 HB can be processed with shielding gases of groups M1, M2, M3 as well as CO₂. Crack-sensitive base materials should be preheated to about +250 °C. Different shielding gases can affect the achievable hardness values.
